Tina Davidson creates music that stands out for its emotional depth and lyricism. She has been acclaimed for her authentic voice, her “vivid ear for harmony and colors” (New York Times) and her works of “transfigured beauty” (OperaNews). Winner of the prestigious PEW Fellowship, Davidson has been commissioned and performed performers and ensembles such as Hilary Hahn, Kronos Quartet, Cassatt Quartet, VocalEssence, The Philadelphia Orchestra and National Symphony.
“Tina Davidson’s music is rhythmically driving, with fascinatingly simple yet lovely harmonic changes. The composer makes music satisfying by carefully managing tension and release; it’s being able to bring a sense of beauty and emotion to a strict organizational structure, a rarity in any age.”

“Tina Davidson’s Blue Curve of the Earth grows from a tiny pizzicato figure into a lyrical world that literally seems capable of embracing the horizon. It is a shamelessly lovely piece.”

Community outreach has been a hallmark of Davidson’s career. Whether teaching inner-city at-risk children how to compose, working with homeless women at a YWCA shelter to write operas of their lives, or creating music specifically to include children performing with professionals, Davidson brings a deep personal commitment to the love of craft and the joy of sharing.
Most recently, Hilary Hahn released a second recording of the work she commissioned from Davidson, Blue Curve of the Earth, on her new album Retrospective (Deutsche Grammophon).
“Tina Davidson is the very model of a post minimalist composer. Her music bespeaks a real artistic personality. What distinguishes this music most for me is the manner in which Davidson shapes the telling details within the texture. She has a gift to listen very closely to the microscopic moments in her music and imbue them with real individuality and substance.”
